Book 1 Project

Have you ever wanted to create your own ending to a novel? Do you have what it takes to have your ending published? Relive the experience of Hazel and Augustus by writing the end of the novel An Imperial Afflictions. Contestants will receive a copy of the book and have extra pages to write their entry. One lucky writer will be chosen to have their ending on the final print of the novel, their name on the cover, and a cash reward.

In The Fault in Our Stars, Hazel is astounded by the novel An Imperial Afflictions. She has written to the author multiple times but still no response, questioning the ending of the incomplete novel. August and Hazel travel into a new world, Amsterdam, to meet the author himself to finally receive an answer for how he desires to end the novel. We all question the ending of novels when we feel they don’t have a sense of closure, “And then there are books like An Imperial Afflictions, which you can’t tell people about.” While receiving the book the contestant will also have ideas that Hazel hints throughout the novel. Even her love interest Augustus has vowed to Hazel to create the ending hoping it is the ending she desired for all along. Trust us when we say chicks love guys who can write, especially books.   Contestants are encouraged to use the characters ideas but also can create a plot twist, “Tell me my copy is missing the last twenty pages or something. Hazel Grace, tell me I have not reached the end of this book. OH MY GOD DO THEY GET MARRIED OR NOT OH MY GOD WHAT IS THIS?!” We all are just as anxious as Augustus to know how the ending should be interpreted.

It is amazing the impact of an ending a book can have. The way writers end a novel is like determining the after taste of the story. Does the writer want the reader to feel sad, angry, questioning, confused, excited, happy, overjoyed etc. after completing their novel? Should there be a cliff hanger? Should a second book be written? You could create the after taste we are looking for in the story. It takes your own words to create that ending,  “Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.”  We believe there is a writer out there who can make us want all living humans to read the story.

The contest is for AMATEUR WRITERS ONLY. We want the words they have not been heard YET in the book publishing industry. In order for your work to be read, only hand written words into the extra pages will be reviewed. We believe in the importance of having the entire novel in our hands instead of trying to connect the words through email or a word document. If you wish to use more pages simply staple the rest at the end of the pages, but remember details and connection is key to catch our eyes. The more creative and impactful the better!  To enter our contest please visit, www.endingofanimperialafflictionscontest.com, to order the copy and instructions on details with deadlines and notifications.

It is not too late to have your words out in the book industry world! We are just the first step to help create your dreams of being a famous writer into a reality. This is your chance to amaze us with your skills and creativity! Enter now and have your chance to win!

  1. Good job of zeroing in on the book that was so central to their relationship in the book. I like the idea of people writing an ending to this book inside the book. I wonder if you could also discuss what they learn from Peter Van Houten or how TFiOS ends as examples. The contest is a good idea, especially since you're trying to discover a new writer.

  2. This is a really original idea! I feel like it's so applicable to the book, and I think people would really participate in it.
